One day I was invited, by a studio musician I knew, to attend a recording session. I had no idea how accepting that invitation would result in one of my proudest accomplishments. I walked into a Universal Recording Studio session where Tyrone Davis was recording "How Sweet it is to be Loved by You!" I was hooked! Having full access to this major and historical recording studio, I could drop in any time, and so I did.
During one of those visits, I stepped into Studio A while the Chilites were recording their "Hot on a Thing" project. I met the producer (Eugene B. Record), and there I was for the next 3 years. I was the co-writer and protégé of Grammy-Winning Songwriter and Arranger, Eugene Record. Mr. Record was the lead singer for the Chilites and wrote the international hits: "Oh Girl," "Have You Seen Her," "Soulfil Strut," and "For God’s Sake We’ve Got to Get More Power to the People."
Writing under the name of L. F. Butler and L. Frances Butler, I had three releases by the Chilites:
You Take the Cake
Do What You Want
Hard Act to Follow
